Cake Pan Winner!

Hi Sugar Babies!

Just got back last night from the Missouri ICES Weekend of Sharing. I had been to this particular event before a few years back and it was very well done (not all DOS and WOS are created equal) , so my expectations were rather high. I anticipated very quality demos, great meals, smooth organization and flow, and friendly people. But I have to say it was not what I expected.

It was better!!!

HAHA

This event was wonderful! One of the best weekends of sharings I have ever been too. The demos were plentiful and excellent. We got two wonderful sit down meals, and there was a great vendor room. Glenda Stockwell and Carolyn Lawrence did an exceptional job of organizing and executing the 2 day event. Everything went smoothly; they were very attentive to the attendees' needs, and the venue was great. Every single person I met was absolutely wonderful. We had such a great time! I was sad to go home.

I did not bring a camera, so I am hoping to get some sent to me by others, and then I will post them. If you guys ever get a chance to go this event, please do. You will not regret it.

Once again you make me laugh while I'm
sitting alone at my computer!
Thanks for the "pick-me-up" Sharon!
I would love to add that pan to my baking supplies!

Congratulations! Email me to claim your prize. Thank you all for entering.

Now I am off to unpack, do laundry, clean up the messy kitchen and overflowing cat littler box I arrived home to, and I will be back in a few days with another mind blowing entry! OK, it might not be mind blowing. Don't get your hopes up.

Happy caking!

Ultimate Cake Off

AIR DATE!

The episode where I am one of 3 assistants to Rebecca Sutterby will air on October 5, 2009 at 10 PM EST on the TLC network.

Be sure to tune in for an exciting episode! We had such a blast while we were there. Of course, being with 3 of my great friends guaranteed that!

I am just an assistant, Rebecca is the star. And that is a good thing. It decreases the chances of any of the stupid things I said actually making it on TV.

Set your DVR now!

De-clutter Update

The saga continues....

Well, I have made some progress. I think.

I finally got the spare room cleaned out and organized. I wanted to take a picture of it before the clean up, because it was bad. Really bad. But in his zealousness, P-Hubby gutted it before I could snap the picture.

I have now converted it into my SugarEd office. The SugarEd stuff had overtaken my cake room, and the foyer, and the dining room, and part of the den. So it was time to give it a room of its own.

Now I have all my inventory, supplies, and 2 work stations in here. Even got my recliner so that after a long day at work, I can kick back and relax while watching the Young and Restless on nightly replay on Soap Net. (My one guilty pleasure.)

Ah, feels good , yes, to have this room done.

But where in the heck did all of the junk go? Oi vay:

Into my older son's now vacant room. He took his furniture off to his apartment at college. So now it's filled with crap I still have go through and organize and purge. I am working on it bit by bit.

Oh yeah, and there is some more in the hall.

Oh, and the dining room too.

Why does it seem that when you clean out rooms, you end up with more stuff than when you started?

And looky what I found!

An 18 inch square cake pan that I bought, oh, maybe 8 years ago? Maybe more? I held onto it thinking I might one day have an oven big enough to hold it, but alas I do not. It is time to say goodbye.

Anybody want it? You can see it is unused with the label still on it. Dusty too. I have never used that brand, so I cannot really say if it is a great pan or not. But the label says right there that it is a "darn good cake pan." So there you go! But you are welcome to it.

If you would like to have this lonely underappreciated pan, drop a comment and I will draw a random winner next week.

Don't you just love how I turn my old junk into give-away prizes? Classy, huh? :)

----------------------------------

Well, I am about to get real busy for the next 2 months or so, so my cleaning project will have to be put on hold for a while.

I am going to Kansas City this weekend for the Missouri ICES Weekend of Sharing, and I will check in with you guys next week!

Happy caking!

Let Us Not Forget

My thoughts and prayers today are with the families and all of the victims of that horrible day. Let us never forget what a noble sacrifice they made in the name of freedom, and our beloved country.

God Bless them all and God Bless America

Oreo The Dog

Last night I made a cake for one of my favorite little clients. Her request was "Make Oreo like you did Remy, and lots of white icing." How cute is that?
I know that Eva loves pink and all things girly, so I added some of that to the cake was well.

Oreo is her dog. I snapped a few in progress photos. Once again, I am living proof that owning a good camera does not a good photographer make:

I printed out several pictures of dog figurines too help me do mine. First I did the basic body shape with indentations where the legs and arms will attach. I scored it up with a metal tool to give it some fur texture.

Then I added the hind legs and one front leg. Every piece starts as either a ball or a sausage, and then you refine the shape from there.

Then I realized that Oreo had white front legs, so I had to change that. I added a thin piece of white to the back paws and his chest and scored that up too. Looks like a roasted turkey to me. Or maybe I am just tired. Or hungry. (Trying to lose a few pounds before the next DVD shoot.)

Then I got so absorbed in making him and I forgot to snap pics of the making of the head. That took a little trial and error. I suck. Sorry.

He looks surprised, or scared, or maybe he had too much doggie botox.
Figure modeling is not one my strengths by any means. I was hoping he would just come out decent. If you can guess what breed of dog he is, that would make me even happier.

Oreo with his kibble. I hope Eva likes it.

And here is how I spent my Sunday:

Helping two little friends make a cake for one little sister's birthday.

I think they did a great job.

(Thanks to hubby for hanging with us and squeezing the 679 clay gun strings for us.)

Happy caking all!
